My colleague David Williams stopped by my desk the other day to tell me he had lunch at Frankie’s fast food restaurant on Kennedy Boulevard the other day. Said there were gourmet dogs served in a variety of ways, as well as hamburgers and sandwiches. I hadn’t been there yet.
Then he dropped three words that flipped the switch for me: “Mini corn dogs.”
So, I was able to get away today and drop by the restaurant, which opened within the past couple months.
I have a new favorite place.
This is the Portuguese Dog with mushrooms and onions, one of six under the “International Frankie” heading. It was fantastic.
Frankie’s is known for its dogs - the Frankie dog is a footlong that you can dress however you want. That includes a “hot relish” that is more about temperature than spice. There’s an Irish dog, too, that comes with bacon. Not sure why that makes it Irish…
The mini corn dogs? Awesome. I’ll be getting a batch the next time I go.
Got a place you love for lunch? Leave it in the comments and I’ll try to drop by.
