The Brazilian Blowout is changing the way women do their hair…for the better. Ask any woman whose has tried the keratin treatment, and you’ll most likely hear them say, “It’s changed my life.”
I too was seduced by the Brazilian Blowout’s promise of care-free grooming. I paid $150 to have the treatment done by Tamara Smith, a hair specialist in Salon Capri in South Tampa, 4261 Henderson Boulevard (that’s the salon we visited in the Channel 8 story). And I can honestly say, styling my hair has never been easier.
What used to take 20 minutes or more in the morning, now takes maybe 10 minutes. If I flat-iron, I only need to use minimal heat on my hair. My locks are silky, shiny and frizz-free ALL THE TIME.
Granted, the process is expensive, depending on the length of your hair and the zip code of the salon where you have it. But it’s supposed to last up to three months, if you take care of it and use a sulfate-free shampoo each time you wash your hair.
Still, we all want to save money. After calling several cosmetology schools in the area, I found only one offering the treatment. The International Academy of Cosmetology & Barbering, at 2800 N. MacDill Avenue, in the Fountaino Plaza, offers the BB for $100 for two ounces. That’s enough for a woman with hair past her shoulders (I needed about an ounce for my hair). They charge $20 for every additional ounce. And the treatment is done by a teacher, not a student.
