I went to Albertson’s in Britton Plaza yesterday. The store was pretty empty as they are closing forever on Wednesday.
There were still plenty of deals to be had, though.
Makeup and hair styling products were 70% off and they still had a large selection. Also, candy and gum were considered “general merchandise” and fell under the 70% off umbrella and not the lesser “grocery” category of 50%.
The greeting cards are 90% off were no deal. There were no envelopes! Unless you have a stash of weird-sized envelopes at home, I am not sure what you would do with them.
Beware of expired merchandise if you go. I found sunblock, vitamins and frozen foods with way-old sell-by dates. Some by as much as 2006!
Remarkably, the deli and bakery were still operating and I saw someone buying a pound of ham. It appeared as if that was the last item available. I am not sure I would be buying that myself. But to each his own!
I stuck to the items that would not suffer too much from being shelved for ages, like taco seasoning, dog food and Oreo Cakesters (have you seen what kind of preservatives are in those things?) I also got a very nice 8x10 picture frame for $3.
