Take a gander at that bad boy in the photo above.
That there is a vanilla ice cream-filled donut with bananas foster from Blue Dot Donuts at the Oak Street Po-Boy Fest in New Orleans.
My Twitter friend Susan Whelan (@nolamaven) contributed that photo to this week’s Weekend Eats roll call on Twitter and Facebook.
I like donuts. I like Bananas Foster. I like vanilla ice cream. The idea that all three would hold a summit simultaneously in my stomach is almost too much to comprehend.
Susan also sent photos of a Lobster Po-Boy and a BBQ Oyster Po-Boy.
Susan really knows how to eat. Even better, she knows how to share it on Mondays.
For her effort, Susan take’s this week’s first prize. She will be receiving a copies of “Sara Foster’s Southern Kitchen” and “Tupelo Honey Cafe; Spirited Recipes from Asheville’s New South Kitchen.” Both are outstanding books.
For a fascinating story about the history of the po-boy sandwich, click here. Just knowing that such a festival exists makes the world a better place for me.
Other Weekend Eats contributions this week include:
@abaesel2 - Lamb ossobuco, polenta mozzarella flatcakes, avo/tom/cucumber balsamic salad, berries & cream.
@terrysimpson - Chicken fennel sausage with hand rolled pasta. Mozzarella tomato salad & profiteroles
@sekimori - Beef carpaccio, sea bass, smoked gouda mac & cheese & cheesecake at @MaliosPrime Thanksgiving, shmanksgiving.

Ha! That’s funny that Susan is your twitter friend. I knew her well when I lived in NOLA. Small world, huh?
