In only a few hours, we’ll be ringing in 2010! Sipping on champagne, munching on bocaditos and doing the electric slide to Cameo’s “Candy.” But first I have to find something to wear. I usually have my New Year’s outfit picked out weeks in advance, but with all the bru-ha-ha surrounding Noche Buena this year, and who would be hosting it, I’m just now contemplating what I’m going to wear.
And I’m in panicko mode.
Hubby and I were invited to a house party with some friends tonite, so I want to be comfortable (so i can dance) but I want to look good, too. I want a little glitz and glamour, but I don’t want to look like a giant disco ball. And I don’t have any time to shop for anything.
What to do, what to do? Well, I’ve come up with a few simple suggestions that that can save you and me from a fashion crisis and help us ring in the New Year in style. And its made up of pieces you probably already own.
First, check out that LBD. You can never go wrong with an LBD, and chances are if you’re reading this you have one. For New Year’s why not pair it with some funky flats (I have some), a faux leather jacket or some black or colored tights. And don’t forget to add lots of sparkly jewely, bracelets and broaches for a festive look (if you don’t have any, surely you have a friend that will loan you some).
Jeans and a party top.
Jeans are a great go-to piece anytime. But if you have have dark or black jeans, team them with a pair of ankle boots, some cute sandals (make sure your toes are done), or a killer pair of stilletos or pumps and top it off with an ultra-glam top you already own. Take it up a few notches with an arm full of bejeweled bracelets. You can also do this look with a black slacks if you don’t want to do jeans.
Oooo, I could also do a black skirt with some kitten heels and throw on that sequined Beret my girlfriend gave me for Christmas. I can also add an embroidered scarf for a festive look.
And don’t forget about makeup; it’s New Year’s, you don’t have to play it safe and subtle (leave that for work). Instead, try some shimmery shadow in purple, gold or silver. And don’t forget the lip gloss. Or, if you want to keep it subtle, at least wear a bold, red lipstick. That says “I’s ready to party.”
I think I’ve solved my New Year’s party dilemma on the cheap. Now all I have to do is worry about is staying up long enough to enjoy it.
Happy New Year fashionistas! See you next year!
