Iron Horse refunds

Consumers who paid by credit card should first file a dispute with their credit card company.  While some time limitations may apply, because Iron Horse is now out of business, some credit card companies may still help.

The company is going through state dissolution - it’s similar to a bankruptcy.  But instead of a trustee, an assignee is handling the investigation and possible distribution of assets.  Customers of record will receive a claim form to be completed and sent in by December 1st.  If money is available, reimbursement will be distributed among the claimants.  There is no guarantee.  Send your proof of claim, along with supporting documentation such as your receipts, contracts and proof of payments to:
Larry S. Hyman
Assignee - Iron Horse
6861 SW 196 Ave.
Suite 201-04
Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33332

Consumers should also file claims with the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.  Call 1-800-HELP-FLA if you need more information.

The good thing is under federal law we’re not responsible for fraudulent credit card transactions. You can cite this law with your credit card company if you have any problems. More information on this matter can be found at: http://creditcardforum.com/credit-card-fraud/

Credit card is an important thing nowadays, especially during a travel, when it is a lot safer to bring a piece of plastic than a bag of cash.

Can anyone give an update on how much, if any, funds they’ve received? After reading these bankruptcy legal questions, I’m skeptical about the odds of any funds actually reaching consumers.

Apparently there is a long list of creditors who take priority over the victims.  I’m not sure of all the specifics, however, so I’m curious. I wouldn’t bet on people getting a lot of money back, so it seems those who paid with credit cards should be happy.

Lesson learned, if nothing else- pay with a credit card whenever possible.  You can’t beat the security.

We fell for this scam several years ago, and now are receiving messages from Great Escapes in Lakeland, FL who said they’re willing to make good on our membership w/the now closed Iron Horst Travel - anyone get these calls also????  We never heard back from the Larry Hyman attorney on this - maybe all together we can still fight this thing, even though time has passed?

TO EVERYONE WHO HAS BEEN SCAMMED. I was recently hired at Bluegreen as a call center rep. And I must say, i’ve found plenty of complaints about bluegreen all over the interenet. To the people who have lost large, or small sums of money to the company, I must say..THANK YOU! All of your lost money is now paying for my spending habits. I LOVE YOUR CASH. So, tell your friends and family to buy timeshares with Bluegreen. Thanks!

I have read your notices online concerning Bluegreen ‘scams’ and business practices.  Do you know if there is anything going on in Florida, specifically legal action or state agency intervention?  There are several of us who are pushing for some sanctions and a lawsuit against them for deceptive business practices.  Thank you.

Victoria:  Some time back, I advised you that a class action lawsuit was being filed in New Jersey, and one was being contemplated in Florida, against Leisure Path & Bluegreen Corp.  I believe that these suits would include victims of Iron Horse Travel, Tampa, FL.  I have seen no follow-up on this information on Channel 8, or any other news outlet in this area.  It seems that you would be doing a service to any potential victims of the “vacation club” scam if you advised area consumers about this suit.  Thanks.

Our credit card co. refuses to help us in this complaint.  We have submitted numerous documents which we believe proves this was a mis-leading, if not fraudulent transaction.  Bluegreen Travel and Leisure Path apparently contracted with Iron Horse Travel to sell their so called “Vacation Club” memberships.  Iron Horse made promises that Leisure Path is not living up to.  Our credit card co. does not address the obvious fraudulent aspect of this transaction.  They merely state that Leisure Path is still in business, so we have no complaint.  We believe that under the Fair Credit Billing Act, we are entitled to a refund from Bluegreen or Leisure Path, since they are the primary co.  Any suggestions?

Ms. Vicky:  Thanks for exposing this scam.  I’m sorry to say, we are a couple of “suckers” who bit on this fraudulent scheme.  We filed complaints with Fl. Consumer Fraud as well as with our credit card co.  Please keep us up to date on the status of Iron Horse, if you would.  And THANKS again.
