Penny’s a Nurture And Hold (NAH): Nah, I won’t pull that out yet, it’s still got a green shoot. She likes dragonflies, lady bugs and new stuff only after weeding, pruning and fertilizing.
Kim’s a Want It Now (WIN): Everything pretty, everything now. She will resort to full-spectrum insecticides in desperate situations, and believes it’s her duty and right to buy new plants every weekend.
Both advocate Plant Choice (SOMEthing besides crotons. Please!), lots of color and low maintenance. We don’t agree on everything, but we’re smart enough to learn from each other - and from you.

I’m on stay-cation this week (yay!) and when I’m done with the joys (negligible) of cleaning house and paying bills, my really good times are, of course, in the garden.
FOD Janna lives close by, which has been very nice. We’ve been carpooling to plant shows and visiting each other’s gardens regularly. So when I told her I was off this week, we thought it would be great to get together. And since we both love seeds and cuttings, what better way to enjoy some downtime than having a pot party!
Yup, just lay out the perlite, potting mix, little pots, seeds, cuttings, newspaper (for making seed pots) and wine (lemonade for the under-21 gardeners), and the party is good to go.

Janna brought tons of good snacks, but we were so busy planting, we never even dug into those. (Thanks for leaving them behind, Janna. Yum!)
Here’s me trying to choose which seeds to plant next.

And here’s Janna, who did NOT want her picture taken, but was so engrossed in labeling her seed pots, she never noticed the camera.

Not only did we have a nice time together, but when we were done, we had loads of seeds and cuttings all potted up and ready for whatever—post-freeze planting, the Jan. 10 swap, friends in need. These are just a few of our party favors.

Yup, pot parties are the way to go. I’m thinking I just invented this and I’m proud. If it’s been done before, don’t tell me!

Penny sure knows how to throw a pot party! I think this could be a new trend… Ater a little stroll around the yard (I had to check out her new additions and fall bloomers) we sat down to start planting. The hostess with the mostess had everything we needed! (Including chilled wine.) Surrounded by her thriving and colorful garden, we started filling peat pots, plastic pots and newspaper pots with soil, perlite and an array of seeds that included black-eyed susans, orange cosmos, milkweed, skullcap and hollyhocks! Then came the cuttings. My kind of party. We’re ready for winter. And sharing with our friends. Thanks, Penny.

P.S. You’re a little SNEAKY with that camera, Miss Penny.

Sounds like fun! Here’s a tip for whenever you’re buying your soil (I saw you bought jungle growth) if it ripped they rip the price 50% off! I found this is the easiast and most cost effective way to go. Even the smallest rip they’ll take it!

Geez, I’m gonna’ start LOOKING for potting soil with a tear in the bag. Thanks, Eric.
Pumpkin, you were there in spirit, as were all of our Dirt friends! We talked about good it is to have such a knowledgeable and friendly group of folks who share our passion for plants.
I agree with Penny, a group pot party would be fun, too!
Thank goodness for elusive flash buttons.

The best name for a blog I have seen is “I Wet My Plants” I really enjoy yours and wish more people would chime in with comments on blogs. Mine is http://floridafriendlyplants.com/Blog/ and thanks for reading. How are the Tampa Tribune paper pots working for the FODies?

LOL——“I wet my plants”——-too funny. That’s our kind of gardener. One with a sense of humor.
Your pot party looks great, Penny. I was searching just this morning for smaller pots for some cuttings but seem to have thrown them out this summer when they got too invasive. I could kick myself.
Thanks for the ripped bag trick Eric. I will be looking for that from now on.

PS——enjoy your staycation. I’ll be doing a little bit of that in Jan. when my nephew comes to visit.

LOL——Two Garden Hoes——that’s funny too.
I like that newspaper idea. I’ll give it a try. I want to do more of those hollyhocks seeds.

I’ve got 3 hollyhocks coming up right now, with one of them looking stronger than the other two with buds on it. It’s kind of exciting to do that from seed. You feel so motherly watching them come up. I recently put in seeds for peas (they actually look like dried peas, but then what else would it be?) and I have these little sprouts coming up. It’s so cool.

Congrats on your pea sprouts and hollyhock buds, Susan! You’re going to want to do backflips when you see the first hollyhock blooms. They are so big and beautiful.
Eric. Whoa. Fruit from a tree that grew from a seed you planted? That’s extremely impressive! Enjoy every bite of that papaya! (After you’ve photographed it, of course.)

With all of this rain and cooler weather all manor of seeds should be popping up! Diane and I have been sharing time on my computer until last night when I got hers going again. I am not a computer tec. so was Leary of opening it up I was glad I did the problem was a simple one, some how a sale’s slip got caught in the cooling fan and that was why it was shutting itself off. Ironically it was a sales slip we needed and had been looking for. I now have full use of my computer, and can take the new coffee pot that will not work back! .“Chip”

You’re right, Chip - the rain and cooler weather is great for the seeds! I planted some red nasturtium seeds that are now popping up all over the place. You’re quite the talented guy - expert edible gardener AND computer repairman!
Love the paper pots, Rick!

Who’s kidding who I got lucky! most likely saved me some money though. And yes the nostrums like it wet that is why soaking them helps them start. once they grow a little bit they don’t need much extra water than any thing else. now the big question has Penny got any starting? I have two in pots just for her if she doesn’t have any nostrums going by now some critter is eating them for lunch!..“Chip”
