Wake up. Throw on some clothes. Get out to the barn.
The animals need to be fed and watered. Need to make sure they're OK, and relatively happy.
Cows, chickens, rabbits, pigs: Champions in training can be demanding.
Some like to be brushed; others spook easily. Some like to play; others think they're in charge.
Being the best isn't easy. But it's what drives these teens - that, and their animals.
You'll find stories behind every pen at Tampa Bay's agricultural fairs. Come along as we follow the stories of several teens preparing for the 2007 fair season.
Brittnee Smith, 13, Zephyrhills
Hello my name is Brittnee Smith. I am an 8th-grader at Centennial Middle School. This is my second year showing a steer at the Pasco County Fair. I have been in FFA for two years now and in 4-H for over seven years before that. In the past, I have shown sheep, dairy, and hogs. I enjoyed doing it all, but my favorite thing so far is showing a steer. It is very challenging at times, but I love a challenge.
My steer is named after the famous PBR bull Hammer. Hammer is a black Angus cross breed out of Karppe Farms in Zephyrhills. I also have a Web site, http:www.freewebs.com/brittneesmith06. The site has many pictures and info on Hammer and the Pasco County Fair.
I would like to invite you to the 2007 Pasco County Fair Steer Show & Sale.
