USF Polytechnic’s faculty senate this week rejected a proposal to turn Poly into an independent university. And now the senate for the entire system is registering its displeasure.
This includes faculty from Tampa, St. Petersburg and Sarasota-Manatee.
Decisions this big should not be made “without the full and adequate consultation with the appropriate academic governance bodies,” said the letter from Elizabeth Bird, senate president, to the state Board of Governors.
It went on to ask the board to “seriously consider the implications of a making a decision that would contravene well-established principles of university governance.”
The board meets next week to consider the independence plan.
