If you missed the Red Bull Flugtag on Saturday, you’re probably the only one.
It was like a mini-Gasparilla in downtown Tampa surrounding the Tampa Convention Center. Lots of people, little space. And it was scorching outside.
Watching the teams “take flight” was hilarious.
The idea was to see homemade, human-powered flying machines pilot off a 30-foot dock in attempt of achieving flight.
With each team, there was about five minutes of really bad theatrics followed by a big push up the ramp and an imminent plunge into the disgusting water of Tampa Bay.
The Tampa Bay Derby Darlins racked up the most style points, winning the people’s choice award with their rollerskate-shaped flying machine. Nice!
Grand prize went to Team Tampa Baywatch; second place to Air Gilligan; and third to The Little Engine That Could.
