Disaster mortgage protection insurance covers your mortgage payments in case fire, flood, wind, or some other peril destroys your home. Based on the amount of your monthly mortgage, the yearly premiums range from $68-$353/year.
Right now, I only know of AAA Auto Club South that sells this type of protection.
Before buying any type of insurance, make sure to check out the insurance agent, the insurance company and the underwriter of the policy with the Florida Department of Financial Services. You can call the consumer hotline at: 1-800-342-2762.

Last year’s hurricances brought two claims to our home. With a high deductible I was pleased when I found our DMP policy. It helped pay $500 per claim. It sure was a comfort to us and our pocketbook.
We bought our policy when we bought our home back in 1999. The cost itself is a no brainer. At $5.50 per month the peace of mind is very pleasant. The company we have our DMP is called ACE Property and Casualty companies out of Tampa.

ACE is no longer selling Disaster Mortgage Protection, they are now offering to cover your deductible from your homeowners insurance and $1000 per month living expenses for TRIPLE what the DMP was selling for. You might revisited this. This is all as of 7/25/07.
