Penny’s a Nurture And Hold (NAH): Nah, I won’t pull that out yet, it’s still got a green shoot. She likes dragonflies, lady bugs and new stuff only after weeding, pruning and fertilizing.
Kim’s a Want It Now (WIN): Everything pretty, everything now. She will resort to full-spectrum insecticides in desperate situations, and believes it’s her duty and right to buy new plants every weekend.
Both advocate Plant Choice (SOMEthing besides crotons. Please!), lots of color and low maintenance. We don’t agree on everything, but we’re smart enough to learn from each other - and from you.

NewsChannel 8 meteorologist Leigh Spann has started doing profiles of Bay area gardens. On Friday morning, her package on Janis “Pumpkin” Vogt’s beautiful cottage garden in Seminole Heights aired.
In case you missed it, here’s a replay. (Stay tuned to the very end or you’ll miss my favorite part.)

Wow, I really enjoyed watching this segment. I wish they would do one each season to get all of the different looks and plants of the garden at different times of the year. This is a great addition to he morning news show and I hope that they continue it. Pumpkin we are all enjoying your love of gardening.

Thanks for posting the link to the video! I was happy to be able to see it again since I just caught the end when it originally aired. Pumpkin, your garden is absolutely beautiful. If you were nervous during the interview, it certainly didn’t show! You looked and sounded great.
I’m really happy to see that they’re adding a gardening segment to the news. Oh yeah - “The Dirt” plug was good, too!

Ms Pumpkin, thank you so much for showing your cottage garden! It is very lovely and original and I can tell you are a passionate gardener.
This TV segment makes me think of the motto of Top Tropical Nursery: MAKING THIS WORLD A BETTER PLACE, ONE PLANT AT A TIME.

Janna, you asked me a question weeks ago, I didn’t ignore it, I’m just slow sometimes….
Plants I have potted, well, for starters I have vines. Flowering vines are my specialty. My goal is to have at least one of each.
My favourite? Yellow Mandevilla. So beautiful and easy to grow, native and cold hardy.
On my new green plant stand I have a Crimson Mandevilla, it looks amazing with the darker green glossy leaves and lots of brigt red flowers.

I changed my screen name to Ingrid.
So many people seemed to think it was short for Inger and I started to like it….

Penny can you post a link here to your Sunday article? I didn’t get the paper Sunday and I missed it! I threw my back out working my compost beds Saturday and spent most of Sunday on my heating pad. I am OK now and back up to full speed but going a bit slower than normal I don’t want to do that again! Reworking the beds is a lot of work! but so worth it….“Chip”

Chip, I am glad your feeling better. It’s a 3 day weekend and I’ll probably push myself to the point of being sick working in the garden.
If anyone does anything cool in the garden this weekend send in pictures! Pumpkin
