Here is Nathan before CrossFit:

Here is Nathan after CrossFit:

Just kidding.
This is Nathan before CrossFit:

This is Nathan after a motorcycle accident!!

Poor guy. He’s got a broken leg and staples all over his body, including his head. I’m glad he’s got some good drugs.
Needless to say, he didn’t open up his CrossFit warehouse at 211 N. Willow Ave. on Monday. He was still in the hospital.
I was bummed.
But he was there this evening—staples, bandages, bruises and all—encouraging members through their workouts.
It was brutal tonight.
Nathan decided to pit three guys versus three girls in a team workout.
It was three veteran dudes fighting the clock against the buff Sloan, D and me.
The workout:
*400 meter run
*100 burpees
*150 kettle bell swings
*125 wall balls
*1,500 meter row
We started with the row and each banged out 500 meters. Yowza!
Once we were “warmed up,” we took turns—first Sloan, second D and then me—doing as many wall balls as we could. You stand facing a wall about a foot away and throw a ball up against the wall. When you catch the ball, you squat, and then repeat.
We averaged about 20 wall balls per gal. You’re not running around, but dang, it’s a cardio workout!
Next it was on to the kettle bell swings. Swinging a kettle bell between your legs and up near your head, over and over, is a lot more tiring than it sounds. Using your hips and core is essential!
We were gassed as we moved on to the burpees. OK, D and I were; Sloan was a machine. I hope that one day I can do them as efficiently as she can.
We tried to bang out about 15 burpees per person as we rotated through our set. D and I were struggling, but we held our own.
The 400-meter run was a breeze for me. If I can do that last every time, I’d be golden.
We finished strong! I won’t tell you who won the competition, though.
Well, OK. The real winner: every muscle fiber in my body.
At least that’s what I’ll be telling myself tomorrow when the pain sets in.
Nathan, hope you’re feeling better soon! I’m doing my burpees and suicides in the meantime ...
