Today, as faculty, staff and students get ready for a new semester, we launch a new TBO.com blog, called Inside USF. It’s devoted to the many and varied things happening at the University of South Florida - from the progress of the big new science building to new patents to research of all kinds.
So we have an assignment for everyone on campus: When you have some news worth getting out, let us know.
What do we consider news? Anything out of the ordinary in academia that people across campus, the state, even at academic centers worldwide would want to know.
It was news when USF bought a new boat for the College of Marine Science - the Weatherbird II, which has turned out to be crucial in uncovering the consequences of the Deepwater Horizon oil well blowout. It was news when a pair of graduate students won a state award for a water treatment project in Bolivia. And it was news when a private donor gave USF money to start a new clinic for people with Lou Gehrig’s disease.
The news might not always be good. A study comparing faculty salaries at USF to higher paying universities is news, too. But all of it will increase the public’s awareness of this major public university, where about 50,000 students will come this fall for knowledge, enlightenment or whatever else they need to take the next step in life.
So let us know when you come across something on campus you want the world to know about. Call (813) 259-7834, email .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) or leave a comment here.
