Wake up. Throw on some clothes. Get out to the barn.
The animals need to be fed and watered. Need to make sure they're OK, and relatively happy.
Cows, chickens, rabbits, pigs: Champions in training can be demanding.
Some like to be brushed; others spook easily. Some like to play; others think they're in charge.
Being the best isn't easy. But it's what drives these teens - that, and their animals.
You'll find stories behind every pen at Tampa Bay's agricultural fairs. Come along as we follow the stories of several teens preparing for the 2007 fair season.

I’m raising a Yorkshire-Hampshire cross barrow named Garth (after Wayne’s World) for the Florida State Fair in February. I have been taking care of him every day by cleaning his pen, feeding and grooming him since September, when I purchased him. It is a lot of hard work to do these chores every day, but it definitely pays off to see such a happy pig! Garth’s favorite passtime is, of course, is eating, and it definitely shows. When I got him in September, he weighed 50 pounds. Now, four months later, he weighs over 200 pounds! He’s a gentle giant with the same mannerisms of a puppy and will do anything for a dog biscuit.
Here is a picture of Garth in the pasture:
