Anyone remember the days of wine coolers?
Yeah, we barely did either.
They went the way of the White Russian and teased-out-Bon-Jovi-groupie-Camaro-hair.
Well, apparently they’re making a comeback. At least if you believe this little bit of viral public relations masked as a warm, feel-good, girl-power commercial:

Subject: Are coolers coming back?Hi, I wanted to tell you a quick story…bare with me.
I went to school in upstate New York and after graduation moved to the city like many of my fellow alum. As a native Chicagoan, it was nice to start off in a new city with a group of friends, but regardless of numbers, feeling lonely in this city can be as common as not finding a cab at 8:50am when you’re late for work.
And so, in an effort to thwart any unwanted feelings of sadness, a group of my girlfriends and I all get together every Wednesday for a bit of wine, girl talk, and chocolate (yes, chocolate). These weekly gatherings have become my anchor over the past several years, and regardless of the weeks ups and downs, the breakups, the jobs, I can always count on Wednesdays to regain my balance.
This past Wednesday I was caught with a little surprise. My friend Sarah was the host for the evening (we rotate) and when I went to her refrigerator to grab one of the obligatory bottles of vino, I was greeted by an unwelcome substitute.
Immediately my “Um Sarah†was interrupted by her “I didn’t have time to get wine, so I grabbed those instead…they are good Rach, I swear!â€
I prayed that she wasn’t talking about the multiple 4 packs of Seagram’s Coolers nestled in her mini New York City fridge, but upon further inspection realized that this Wednesday, I would be swapping my usual crisp California for a Calypso Colado. Um Sweet? (She had no idea they were one of my clients)
While at first this group of financially unstable yet surprisingly snotty girls huffed and puffed at the idea of drinking, gasp, wine coolers, the night ended up being one of the best yet. I don’t know if it was the fact that the beverages were fruity and sweet, or that the individual servings were conducive for the mandatory Wednesday night buzz, whatever it was, the night was perfect. In fact, Alex, the snottiest of us all announced that from now on, once a month will be Seagram’s Coolers night.
So apparently, wine coolers are making a comeback. After asking around I found that my friends were not the only 20 something’s in the city to indulge in a Bahama Mama or Fuzzy Navel every once in a while. And who would have thought that I, someone who does PR for Seagram’s Coolers, would be the last to find out.
So, if you want to know more about Seagram’s Coolers (they have many delicious flavors), or want to do a little Wednesday night taste test of your own, just let me know!
Best,
Rachel
Bare with you?
Ahem.
Anyway, if anyone reading this has noticed an uptick in wine cooler consumption among your friends (or you, for that matter, since confession is good for the soul), leave a comment. I’d love to hear from you. As long as you’re not a PR rep for Seagram’s.

Zima + grenadine....been there, done that. (sigh)
I must admit, wine coolers were my first taste of alcohol; the sweetness is sufficient to kill the alcohol taste so many first-timers hate, lol. Anyone remember TJ Swann’s line of coolers?? Steppin’ Out was my favorite, but Easy Nights was a close second. Ah, the backwoods of SC and a bottle of TJ. Good times, indeed.

I can still remember the taste of my first Bacardi Breezer like it was yesterday...ah, to be 15 and have friends running a fake-ID business out of their bedroom again.
That said, I think the last time I drank anything relatively wine-coolerish was in my teen years. Zima + Jolly Rancher = good times. Aren’t all the beer haters drinking those malt beverages these days?
