Cardinal Mooney High School will follow the closing schedule of the Sarasota County School Board. Please call the school for more information.
Due to severe weather, all South Florida Community College (SFCC) campuses and off-site locations in Highlands, Hardee, and DeSoto counties will be closed Wednesday, Aug. 30.
The Hardee Campus will be needed as a special needs shelter, any classes scheduled after 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Hardee Campus have been cancelled.
Activities scheduled through Tuesday evening at the Highlands and DeSoto campuses will continue as usual.
No decision has been made regarding the college’s opening on Thursday.
The following campuses of Keiser College, Keiser Career College and Everglades University will be closed.
Keiser College:
Closed Wednesday, August 30th – Lakeland campus, Orlando campus and Melbourne campus.
Everglades University:
Closed Wednesday, August 30th - Orlando campus.

As a precaution for the possible effects of Tropical Storm Ernesto, Polk County public schools will be closed Wednesday, August 30, 2006.
All extracurricular and after-school activities, including all athletic activities and events for Wednesday, August 30, 2006, will be suspended.

The Highlands County EOC will go to level 1 activation at 9 p.m. Tuesday. The county is under an inland Tropical Storm Watch. A local state of emergency has been declared.

No hospitals are closed in Highlands County.
No mandatory evacuations at this time although mobile home parks and low lying areas residents are encouraged to evacuate to shelters.
SANDBAGS: Up to 25 per person available at
The EOC,

Filled sandbags available at Sheriff’s Tower Road from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday.
Tampa - Sandbags will be available on Tuesday, Aug. 29, through Thursday, Aug. 31, from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.
Residents may pick-up sandbags at:
The Himes Sports Complex, 4501 South Himes Avenue;
Jackson Heights Playground, 3310 E. Lake Avenue;
The Solid Waste facility at 4010 W. Spruce Street.
Tampa residents interested in receiving sandbags must show identification verifying residence within the city limits. Valid driver’s license, utility bill or electric bill will serve as appropriate identification.

DeSoto County issued a state of local emergency effective as of 8:30 a.m. Tuesday morning. Residents are encouraged to prepare for the storm.
Winds between 20 to 35 MPH are predicted to impact DeSoto County early Wednesday morning and rain fall amounts totaling three to five inches are possible.
As with any tropical system, tornadoes are possible in the rain bands.
There are no plans to open any shelters at this time.
The Hardee County Schools will be closed on Wednesday, August 30, 2006.
Closing will affect 741 employees and 4,956 students.
ST. PETERSBURG - Eckerd College is reversing its evacuation order, stopping its evacuation scheduled for later this morning, and preparing the campus and community for the possible effects of a tropical storm.
New and transfer students may come to campus as planned on Thursday and Friday. Upperclassmen may return as planned on Friday.
