The Highlands County EOC will go to level 1 activation at 9 p.m. Tuesday. The county is under an inland Tropical Storm Watch. A local state of emergency has been declared.

The following shelters will open at 5 p.m. Tuesday
Avon Elementary School
Woodlawn Elementary School
Fred Wild Elementary School
Lake Placid High School
Avon Park Holiness Camp - Pet Shelter
A special needs shelter will open at 2 p.m. Tuesday at
Agri-Civic Center
Government offices and Schools will be closed on Wednesday (including Public Schools,
Heartland Christian private school, and SFCC will be closed Wednesday
Courts are open Wednesday
No hospitals are closed in Highlands County.
No mandatory evacuations at this time although mobile home parks and low lying areas residents are encouraged to evacuate to shelters.
