“It’s high noon,” Judge Ric Howard notes.
The question of the hour is whether or not the case will go to the jury today or not.
Prosecutors would rather wait until tomorrow. The courtroom has to be reset, and a new set of jury instructions has to be typed up.
Defense attorneys want to finish the trial today. Alan Fanter says the jury would probably like to go home tonight.
“I’d be happy to go home tomorrow,” Ridgway says. “I’d rather do it right.”
Howard mulls the decision for a few moments, then decides that closing arguments should begin this afternoon.
At 3 o’clock, the last phase of the John Couey case begins – closing arguments.
