Court began this morning with Judge Ric Howard asking John Evander Couey whether he wanted to testify during the death penalty phase of his case.
He said simply he wanted to remain silent.
He didn’t want any other witnesses called, he told the judge.
With that, prosecutors called their first rebuttal witness, Dr. Harry McClaren.
McClaren worked at Florida State Hospital, which is the state’s primary institution for mentally ill and developmentally disabled population.
McClaren evaluated Couey, and is expected to testify about his impressions of the 48-year-old convicted sex offender.
