After waiting out a fierece rainstorm I made it out to Brad Askew’s opening at Reax space on Friday night.
The turn out was good given that rain that was on and off all evening.
A couple of the found objects that were part of the show:
You can see Mr. Askew conversating in the background(middle).
This sign was hung above the exit to the gallery. I never heard anyone clap but I did over-hear a lot of good talks about the show.
Here are a couple of my faviorte prints from the show.

“Insert Metaphor Here” new art works from Adam 5-100 and Seth Armstrong will open at RedLetter 1 on Saturday August 15th.
Adam5100 was born and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He took to the art of graffiti, a path that would eventually take him to the California College of Arts and Crafts (recently renamed the California College of the Arts). His studies in printmaking and illustration won him the Yozo Hamaguchi award in printmaking, and a BFA with distinction. It was at CCAC where Adam5100 came to know the massive world of art. Most important for him was the sweep from classic American photography, which he took as a realistic portrayal of the history of America, of the life and times of its people, to the freedom of modern and contemporary painting. Based on those influences, and reflecting his fast-moving imagination, Adam5100’s paintings have taken on a satirical look, challenging concepts of modernity, using spaces as a language to describe forgotten places, and light to evoke their story and context within the present, our time. In the years following his formal education, Adam5100’s knowledge of printmaking and savvy ability with spray paint developed into a love and talent for painting using stencils. His stencils represent hundreds of hours of meticulous work and fine detail—the hallmark of his works. He continues to live and paint in Oakland, CA, and exhibits frequently.
Seth Armstrong produces narrative paintings. Exactly what these narratives entail, however, is not definitive, but included is the drama, mystery, and humor that accentuate the theatrical and fictitious characteristics that he believes are apparent in everyday life.
The actions of the subjects and the circumstances of their environments are often vague, only hinting at the motives or story lines that are inherently taking place. Because of an interest in portraiture and a fascination with the use and manipulation of photographic elements, a heightened sense of reality is given to what otherwise might be considered awkward or outlandish.
Seth Armstrong was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. After studying painting in Northern Holland, he graduated from California College of the Arts with High Distinction in 2006. His work has been exhibited in Los Angeles, New York, The Netherlands, and throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. He lives and works in Oakland.
Opening reception Aug 15th from 7pm to 11pm.
