B.B. King At Ruth Eckerd Friday

Now, see, when a king comes to town you have to give him a shout out.

The King of Blues, B.B. King, will perform 8 p.m. tonight at Ruth Eckerd Hall in Clearwater.

But you know what? One of my earliest memories of the man was when he appeared on The Cosby Show.
I was hooked after that. Nothing like being a teen and listening to the blues with your dad.

Hey you don’t have to take my word for it.

Cider House Rules

Everybody kept telling me about the Cider House on Central over the bridge. So, I and one of the Brothers headed to the ‘Burg to have me check it out.

For whatever reason, it wasn’t what I was expecting at all. But I was happily surprised.

The trendy spot attracting biker kids, hipsters and neighbors is s-m-a-l-l. (Think office conference room small.) There’s a small bar with shiny varnish, a few taps, dart board and lots of echo.

But the “Cheers” feel, The Roots blasting from the speakers and the crew of patrons enjoying the warm breezy evening out front — plus the knight in shining armor keeping watch in the corner — somehow all added to its charm.

What’s on tap? Cider. And plenty of tasty imports.

Oh, I’ll be back.

Tuesdays At Crowbar

Mayne, it’s the end of the world.

We got alligators invading homes, monkeys running around, buffalo on the loose, oil crisis, food crisis…

But hey, it’s “All Good” Tuesdays at Crowbar on 17th Street in Ybor.

And it’s all good for good reason: there are $5 liters and shot specials, plus, music by the Soft Rock Renegades (aka DJs Archaea and 2Critical). This week’s guest is DJ Teras.

The Soft Rock Renegades myspace page says you can hear anything from techno to Afro-beat to indie-tronica. D’oh!

Check it out and let me know the deal. Who knows, you might just see me there.

Flosstradamus Performs At Czar

What do you know about flossin’? Better yet, what you know about Flosstradamus?

Not sure who I’m talking about. Well, Flosstradamus is one mad cool deejay crew from Chi-Town. The duo (two cats, three turntables and two mixers) bring down the house with eclectic hip-hop mixes and raucous behavior.

In the works is a full length Flosstradamus album with the boys on production duties, a mix-tape with rappers The Cool Kids, and a European tour with A-Trak and Kid Sister.

If you want to see them live, head to the Pulp party this Friday (April 18) at Czar. Pulp hits every week, and is for the people who can get down and know a little something something about music. It’s more underground than mainstream, and the weekly jump off boasts resident deejays Justin Scott and GE3ON plus The Crate Brothers. And it’s all hosted by 2STEPJON and Pauly Crush.

Get on the Pulp guest list by signing up before 8 p.m. on Friday then arrive before 11 a.m. to skip the $5 cover.

It’s ARTpool ARTparty

Leave your fins and goggles at home, kids. You don’t have to actually jump in the water to check out ARTpool, a new space for art, installations, music and fashion in downtown St. Pete.

The gallery and studio’s grand-opening ARTparty gives you the chance to dip your toes in the local scene, with works on display from both national and area artists, including designer-photographer Marina Williams.

Eat The Tot

Does anyone really need an excuse to eat Tater Tots? No. But why not win free ones.

Bar Louie at International Plaza will host its first “Tater Tot Eating Contest” Thursday at 8 p.m. The winner gets free Tater Tots for a year.

The bar is a pretty chill spot — high-backed booths, large bar stools, flat screens, eye candy, etc. — with more than a few good beers on tap (there’s wine and liquor too), plus a good assortment of bar food like grilled cheese and Black Angus burgers. Arrive early; this place has a tendency to fill up quickly.

Bar Louie will declare a national champion after scores are tallied from competitions at individual locations around the country.

Whether you’re tot curious or in need of a fix, there’s nothing wrong about stuffing your face here.
