NBC`s highly acclaimed but low-rated football drama, ‘Friday Night Lights’ will be renewed for a second season, according to sources in New York where the network will announce its fall schedule on Monday.
The network also gave the go-ahead to four new, hour-long dramas: ‘The Bionic Woman,’ ‘Chuck,’ ‘Journeyman’ and ‘Life,’ according to a report from Variety.
Whether ‘Friday Night Lights’ would be renewed was up in the air. To date, the show averaged only a 2.3 rating or about 6.1 million viewers overall.
NBC will start repeats of “Lights” on May 27.

ABC is expected to announce today that “Lost” will air for three more shortened seasons and then conclude its six-year run in 2010.
The show is expected to air during only the second half of the next three seasons, airing its series finale sometime during the end of the 2009-10 season.
The move would formalize two previously mentioned outcomes for the show – that ABC would air the show only in the second half of next season and that the network and producers would formalize an end date.
Network entertainment president Steve McPherson has said next year he wants to run the show straight through without repeats after a mid-season break hurt ratings.
And in January, the show’s producers told the Television Critics Association press tour in Pasadena they were talking to the network about setting a series finale.
