A few minutes ago, one of my colleagues, who was perusing the wires, said, “Oh, what a shame. One of the guys who co-created ‘Dungeons & Dragons’ just died.”
Without thinking, I blurted out, ”Gary Gygax?!”
Everyone just stared in amazement ... and, likely, no small amount of pity.
I guess some geek hobbies still aren’t acceptable to the mainstream. Like a friend of mine pointed out, if I’d instead been able to name, say, the leadoff batter for the ‘82 Orioles (Al Bumbry? Just a guess), that would’ve been perfectly fine. But D&D? No way.
In any case: So long, Gary.
