It’s Friday and we are remembering Elvis at the News Center (or as some call it: “The Thank God I’ve Still Got a Job Center").
Well, I am remembering E, even if others are indifferent.
People here will eat anything so I brough in some peanut butter, banana and chocolate cookie bars that I whipped up. Tasty. Elvis would have loved them. I set up a little Elvis shrine (a plastic Elvis action figure as he looked in the 1950s) and there’s a white Elvis rose (also plastic). It’s lastest longer than Elvis. The Death Day is tomorrow.
One editor, impressed by the cookies, said “I can almost taste Elvis in my mouth.”
And as soon as she said it, she realized the folly of that remark. No comment on the wisecracks that followed.
Not much writing today. I’m headed to Orlando and Universal Studios where Nickelodeon is taping a family game show. I’ll do so interviews for a later story. Tonight I’m headed to Safety Harbor. It’s the third Friday and the town has music and street vendors and a lot of trendy folk with dogs. I may do a story on all the little towns in the area that have street festivals once a month.
Weekend is packed with viewing of DVDs. I have five episodes of HBO’s new “TrueBlood” and I am going to watch them all. Love this quirky vampire series.
I’ve got a few other cable shows but the broadcast networks are slow to get out the new fall series.
Saturday is a big day for the Tampa Bay Georgia Bulldog Club. We’re meeting to kick off the fall football watching season. Our Dawgs are top ranked. So take that Gators. We’re gathering at Wild Wing Cafe on Anderson Road on Saturday afternoon. I’m not the only Georgia Bulldog in the Tampa media. Anchor Linda Hurtado of WTSP and meteorologist Leigh Spann of WFLA are Dawgs, too. And I mean that in the nicest way. I run the club’s Website tampabaydawgs.com when I’m not watching TV or writing about it.
