Amanda Tapping, star and executive producer of the SCI FI Channel’s new drama “Sanctuary” will be at the Rays game Aug. 30 to throw out the first pitch.

Tapping at the TCA in Beverly Hills
Tapping, best known to viewers as Col Samantha Carter from the “Stargate SG-1” and “Stargate Atlantis” series, and her co-star Robin Dunne will throw out the first ball of the game. Damian Kindler, creator/executive producer will also be at the game for the Rays first ever sci-fi themed night.
“Sanctuary” follows the adventures of the beautiful, enigmatic Dr. Helen Magnus (Tapping), her new recruit, forensic psychiatrist Dr. Will Zimmerman (Dunne), her quirky tech-wiz Henry (Ryan Robbins) and her fearless daughter Ashley (Emilie Ullerup).
Together they track down, study and protect the strange and often terrifying creatures that secretly populate our world and live among us. For some abnormals, the Sanctuary is their protector and for a dangerous few it is their captor. The series also stars Christopher Heyerdahl as the sinister John Druitt.
SCI FI developed it as a web series before giving it a full season television commitment. Extensively shot on green screen with hundreds of visual effects per episode and one of the few shows using the new RED camera technology, which boasts four times the resolution of high-def television, “Sanctuary” is pioneering a new way to produce television.
The Paley Center for Media in NYC will be presenting a special sneak peek and panel discussion with the cast and creative team of “Sanctuary” on Thursday, October 2—the day before the show premieres.
The 13-episode season premieres with a special 2-hour episode on Friday, October 3 from 9 - 11 pm before assuming its regular timeslot of Fridays at 10 on October 10.

Sci-Fi developed *nothing* of the webisodes. That was all Stage 3 Media. The show was picked up by Sci-Fi and retooled for television.
What a fun theme for a game! hope all goes well.

FYI...SciFi did not have anything to do with the development of Sanctuary. They picked it up for a thirteen episode season after the initial eight webisode run on the net.
I eagerly anticipate the premier of this show.

Great article, but I’d like to point out that is wasn’t Sci Fi that developed Sanctuary as a web series, it was the Canadian production company Stage 3 Media.

Hi, Walt.
Thank you so much for your article on Sanctuary.
Really looking forward to the series premiere.
I went to the Paley Center for Media site: http://www.paleycenter.org/, looking for more information about the Sanctuary event, and couldn’t find any news. Would you happen to have a link?
Thank you!

Is there any video of the first pitch? If anyone has a link, I’d love to see it. I know Amanda well but couldn’t make the game. Thanks.
