The pitching for both teams doesn’t seem to be as sharp as it was last night for either team.
The strained oblique that has plagued Josh Beckett in recent weeks seems to be giving the righty some problems tonight. The former ace looks to be flying open with his lead shoulder to compensate and that is causing some of his breaking stuff to stay up in the zone.
The Rays have made him pay for it.
B.J. Upton and Evan Longoria both jumped on hanging breaking balls in the third with a home run and a double, respectively.
On the other side of the mound, Scott Kazmir has been nibbling too much with his slider early in the count, which is allowing the Red Sox lineup to sit on fastballs in hitter’s counts.
