‘Idol’ winner Kris Allen plays singles party in Clearwater

The current “American Idol” winner Kris Allen played a singles mixer Sunday in Clearwater. 

As “American Idol” winners go, Allen has more or less lived in the media shadow of runner-up Adam Lambert.

Allen and “Idol” runner-up Allison Iraheta appeared briefly at the Venue night club on Saturday for the Meetball, a matchmaking event sponsored by WFLZ radio (93.3 FM).

The event was free, and both performers did a few songs. The two also appeared together with Adam Lambert at a bigger concert in New York last week.

Allen’s got one modest hit so far—“Live Like We’re Dying”—which probably will be getting more airplay on WFLZ (that’s how these things work). His debut album has struggled to make an impression.

Allen has a scruffy look now, which may be an attempt to shake-off that “boring” label that he gets slapped with sometimes.
