If you’ve ever wandered the aisles at the video store or surfed the DVR pay-per-view options and seen a bunch of movies that you’ve never heard of, chances are John has watched them. Why? He loves movies. All kinds of movies. Good, bad, so-bad-they’re good, even the truly unwatchable ones. He mostly loves horror and science-fiction and drive-in exploitation movies that most upstanding model citizens wouldn’t dare watch. Then he writes up his thoughts so you can decide - watch, don’t watch or avoid at all costs. Sometimes he even gets to talk to the cool folks who make some of your favorite films.

Humpday
Genre: Comedy
Directed by: Lynn Shelton
Run time: 94 minutes
Rating: R
Format: DVD
The Lowdown: A sweet, often hysterical film about male friendship, “Humpday” is a rare treat.
It’s the R-rated bromantic companion to “I Love You, Man” that dares to ask whether two straight buddies can get it on in the name of reinventing porn without losing their dignity, their friendship and their significant others along the way.
“Humpday” is wickedly smart and scathingly funny.
Best friends Ben (Mark Duplass) and Andrew (Joshua “The Blair Witch Project” Leonard) reconnect years after their college heyday. Ben is married and has settled into a comfortable routine. Andrew is a free spirit who can’t help but immerse himself in every hedonistic excess that life offers.
Buoyed by a night of hard partying at a pansexual playhouse, the guys decide to enter a local contest geared toward discovering the best amateur homemade porn.
What follows is a tender, bittersweet, eye-opening exploration of all the ways that guys attach themselves to one another without ever admitting emotion or affection, culminating in a riotous, will they or won’t they follow through conclusion.
“Humpday” is a genuine sleeper surprise that simply needs to be seen by as many people who enjoy offbeat movies as possible.
