Best feature: Great for Aerosmith fans.

Worst feature: You’d better really like Aerosmith.

The bottom line: There’s no question that Aerosmith is one of the epic bands of our time. With a career spanning four decades and a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction, the Boston rockers have cranked out countless hits that most people can recognize within the first few notes. Sure, they’ve made some serious mistakes along the way, but altogether they’ve put together a career worthy of tribute in the latest “Guitar Hero” expansion pack.

And that’s all “Guitar Hero: Aerosmith” really is — an expansion. There’s nothing fundamentally different about the game except the track list, and there’s no planned downloadable content. The game is essentially a biography of the band, taking players from their humble beginnings at Nipmuc Regional High School in Upton, Mass., to the Super Bowl halftime show and beyond. The band has been motion-captured, and Activision did a great job playing with the interactions between Steven Tyler and Joe Perry. But if anyone is looking for originality, they won’t find it here.

Even so, Perry can play some fun riffs, and they translate to “Guitar Hero” notes surprisingly well. Whether you like Aerosmith or not, the game’s not a bad tribute for a band that most definitely has the career to back it up.
