The nation’s TV critics are singing the praises of “Glee,” the musical dramedy that took away three Television Critics Association awards Saturday night: Program of the Year, Outstanding New Program, and Best Individual Achievement in Comedy (to co-star Jane Lynch as wicked Sue Sylvester).
The 200-plus member group also picked ABC’s “Modern Family” as “Outstanding Achievement in Comedy,” and ABC’s
“Lost” and AMC’s “Breaking Bad” tied as winners of the “Outstanding Achievement in Drama.”
“The Good Wife” stars Julianna Margulies was named best drama actor. James Garner (“Maverick,” “Rockford Files”) was honored for career achievement) while “M*A*S*H” won the Heritage Award for “cultural and social impact.”
Other winners inclde HBO’s ”The Pacific” (for best miniseries or movie); Discovery Channel’s “Life” (best news and information); and Nick Jr.’s “Yo Gabba Gabba!” (best children’s programming). Tom Hanks accepted as producer of “The Pacific.”
The awards were handed out at a non-televised, low-key event at the Beverly Hilton Hotel where critics are attending a fall preview tour.
Damon Lindelof, “Lost” co-creator, reportedly had the audience laughing when he read aloud numerous angry Tweets he received from fans commenting on the “Lost” finale (none can be repeated here). Many of them used colorful and profane thoughts about how Lindelof could help them “get six years of their lives back.”
