Celerate 50th Anniversary of “West Side Story” in Tampa

Select theaters in the Tampa area will have a special screening on Nov. 9 of “West Side Story 50th Anniversary Event.”

NCM Fathom and Turner Classic Movies (TCM) are presenting it on a closed circuit feed nationwide at 7 p.m. In Tampa it will be in Hyde Park Cinebistro, REG Citrus Stadium Park Mall 20 and COB Grove 16 Cinemas in Wesley Chapel.

The film, starring Natalie Wood, Rita Moreno, Richard Beymer, George Chakiris, won 10 Academy Awards®, including Best Picture, in 1961.  The West Side Story 50th Anniversary Event will open with a new TCM original production featuring a discussion with Walter Mirisch of The Mirisch Company, which produced the classic; Oscar®-winning actor George Chakiris; and vocalist Marni Nixon, who served as Natalie Woods’ voice double. TCM Host Robert Osborne moderates the discussion, which was taped at the 2011 TCM Classic Film Festival in historic Hollywood.
