Today begins the “Upfront” week iin New York when the broadcast networks announce their 2007-2008 schedules at gala events designed to impress advertisers.
For couch spuds, we get to hear about new stuff and cry over what is getting canceled.
NBC had its official upfront last month without a party so they are making more announcements today and entertaining advertisers, too.
ABC and The CW will hold upfronts on Tuesday. On Wednesday, CBS will hold its upfront. Thursday is Fox’s turn.
Some stuff as leaked out and here is what we know:
Fox confirmed its first official new series, sitcom “The Inn”, which is set at a hip New York City hotel. The network has also picked-up sitcom “‘Til Death” for a third season but did not renew freshman “Back To You” because of high production costs. Recent midseason entry “New Amsterdam” will also not be returning.
ABC has renewed “Boston Legal” for a fifth season. Go Denny Crane. And the network has given a series order to David E. Kelly, the force behind “Boston Legal,” for new drama “Life on Mars.” Based on a BBC drama it’s about a present day detective who wakes up in 1973 after being knocked unconscious.
