The Tampa Bay Rays of 2008 have been the feel good story of the baseball season. The young and talented team has made franchise history at nearly every turn. As fans look back at this team they will remember the clutch hits and the inspired pitching. The managerial shrewdness and clubhouse camaraderie … and the funny hair.
So are this year’s Rays the young punks playing on the grass of the old men’s infield-shaped lawns?
These Rays are young and slightly impetuous and not far removed from their ‘devilish’ past. They certainly have thrown the American League East into a bit of anarchy.
Perhaps the Rays like that sense of rebellion. Perhaps they embrace their warrior mentality. Perhaps they just chose the mohawk because some of their younger teammates can’t quite grow a respectable playoff beard.
