Attention Harry Potter fans

Yes, we’re sick with anticipation for “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,” the final book of the Harry Potter series, to be released July 21. And yes, we’ve re-read all or part of the previous books, debated whether Professor Snape is good or evil, and pondered Harry’s ultimate fate. So now we need something else, which is why we have created a new contest that will 1) kill some time so you don’t just sit around waiting for the book to come out and 2) give you an excuse to go back and read your favorite parts of the first six books. Hey, we’re here to help.

J.K. Rowling, author of the Potter series, has said she wrote the last paragraph of the series years ago. This paragraph supposedly ends with this word: scar. That’s the final word of the whole series. I think we all know what scar she might be talking about.

Our challenge to you is: write what you think will be, or would like to see, as the last paragraph of the series. The only restrictions are 1) keep it to no more than 200 words and 2) “scar” must be the last word. I will judge the best of the lot (with the help of several Potter nuts I work with). The winner will be announced before “Deathly Hallows” is released and will receive some sort of prize. Don’t ask what, we’re sort of flying by the seat of our broomsticks here. But I will announce the prize here when we figure out what it is, plus other updates.

As the smoke cleared in the great hall, neither Ron, Hermione or Neville could believe what they were looking at.  In a far corner, Professor McGonagall was hunched over in a corner crying.  They ran toward her, but they couldn’t make out what that dark heap was in front of her. As they drew closer, they all realized with deep sadness what they were looking at.  While Harry had killed Lord Voldemort, the final act was still his.  During the great battle, Lord Voldemort cast an irreversible spell on Harry.  Neither could live while the other survives, the prophecy had come true after all.  Hermione leaned over Harry’s lifeless body and one solitary tear escaped her eye and rolled across Harry’s scar.

Ron looked at Hermione’s lifeless body tears in his eyes.  He and Ginny watched as the Order of the Phoenix members gathered around Voldemort’s body.  Harry was thankful it was over at last.  But the cost was too high.  Hagrid, Hermione, and Lupin all dead.  But life must go on and he would never again feel that awful pain in his scar.

Harry was finishing his job. He took the wand from Voldemorts corps, “What are you going to do with it harry?” said hermione. “What I should have done befor.” Harry walked across the great hall trying to ignore the fact that the once glowing and warm room was now in ruin. Paintings gashed, vases smashed, all thanks to the imense battle. Kicking Malfoys lifeless body aside, he opened the doors that lead to the seemingly peacful court yard. He walked towards the shore line of the black lake and pulled voldemorts wand out from his robes and looked at it. Harry flung the wand into the lake and waited till he heard a satisfying splash. He knew things would be alright and as he walked back to school shiver of relief went through his scar.

I think that Harry takes over the ruling of Hogwarts and he and Hermine grow up and get married and have a son with the same mark on his forehead as Harry has and he shows some wizardry.

Who knew such a prophecy could be misinterpreted. Neither can live while the other survives. Truly neither of them could have lived through this disaster. The castle destroyed, half the teachers and Corneilius Fudge dead, and not even Harry was left standing alive. Voldemort’s body laid lifeless a few feet away from his wand, while Harry lay dead next to him. Hermione and Ron stared at each other for a moment, Hermione broke out in tears ,hugging Ron to the point where he couldn’t breathe. What would have happened? Everyone thought… If he had never gotten that scar…

With what felt like a great effort, Harry stood up. Dazed he looked around. Snape’s smoldering cloak hid his deformed body only a few feet away. Hermione was just beyond Snape. She lay where Voldemort killed her. Harry mustered the strength to walk over to Voldemort’s body & kick it. “DON’T He may not be dead, you saw what he did to Mom & Dad”. said Dudley from the corner. He stumbled over & colapsed at Harry’s knees. Harry had forgot about the Dursleys behind him. Harry looked & saw what was left of Privet Drive & the house he so longed to get away from. However, now he just wished everything was back to the way it was. “Well Dudley even if they were alive they probably wouldn’t take either of us, now that we both have a scar.”

THe last thing Harry saw was a green flash, “That’s it” he thought “Just like my parents i’m dead” Harry opened his eyes expecting to see his mom and dad, but the first thing he saw was Hermione. She was asleep on his chest, her face still wet with tears. Ron, Mr. and Mrs, Weasley were asleep around the room. “Good to see you awake Harry” whispered Lupin from the window. “Your in St. Mungos, and you did it, you killed Voldemort.” Harry uncontiously felt his forehead. Hermione screamed and woke the others. THey started to talk about what had happened but Harry wasn’t listening. He was thinking about Ginny and what life woudl be like now that he had no wcar.

Harry lay there motionless as Hermione ran and fell to his side, “Harry NO! NO! You can’t be NO!” She bent over him and cried. Neither Ron nor Hermione new how long they stayed there, Nermione crying over Harry and Ron unable to so much as wimper as he stared at what had been his best friend, before everyone else found them in the forest. Gasps, murmurs, and crying was what followed the discover of the slate. Even the Surslys Gurp knelt at Hagrad’s body, Slughorn by Snapp’s, and everyone else by Harry. After that night everythign changed. The muggles and wizards got along and the world became a happier place, but no one forgot the story of Harry Potterm the boy with the scar.

“Hermione, Ron!!” What Happened” Exclaimed Mrs. Wesley. “Are you OK?” She looked at her son and her daughter-in-law to be and cried. Cries like she had never cried before, because she new. “So that explosion did come from Harry and Voldemort didn’t it?” Lupin asked. Hermione nodded and Ron said “He is with his parents now and Sirus and…Dad.” Then we should drink to the memory of everyone who died to stop Voldemort” whimpered Megonical. “Aye” agreed Moody. “To Sirius, Dumbledore, Hagrid, Arthur, and to Harry Potter, the boy who lived. No longer bothered by a troublesome scar.”

Harry gazed down at Voldemort’s lifeless body.  He understood now.  The books were right—dividing a soul into pieces was dangerous.  His scar had been Voldemort’s last horcrux.  All the other horcruxes had been so easy for Tom Riddle to form, but 16 years ago his final spell had backfired.  Harry’s mother had surrounded her infant with her love – and that had thrown Voldemort into oblivion.  Harry lived, and now he understood the awful import of his scar.

Harry knelt down by the remains of his parents house. He thought of everything that ever happened to him and to the poeple he cared about. “It’s over Harry, we can go home now” Hermione uttered softly. “Yea, mate Mom has your room set up and everything….it’s over” Ron said. “No it’s not over, it’s just begun” Harry said rubbing his prickeling scar.

“Well done, Ary!” Hagrid, his old friend clapped him on the back with his massive hand. Harry grinned. A frantic Hermione rushed over to him. “Hurry Harry or we’ll miss the train!” she grabbed his arm and pulled him away. Inside the compartment, Ron was already seated and was speaking to Luna. “... and if you need anything, just ask.” she said. “Yeah, sure.” he mumbled. Hermione took a seat next to him and grasped his hand, “Just remember, Ginny died protecting the wizarding world.” ” I know,” he sighed. Harry smiled. “Who knows what chaos we’ll cause next?” They smiled. The train began to move. Ron and Hermione looked up at their friend, The Boy Who Lived. The boy with a lightning bolt scar.

Harry and Voldemort look at each other with total hatred in their eyes. Harry, because of the death of his parents, and Voldemort because of the parents love of Harry. This is it for you Voldemort, I will not let you bring darkness to anyone ever again. Voldemort makes a raspy sound and dies as Herry looks on. Harry realizes that he has finally killed his nemesis. He thinks of all the evil Voldemort has done and now will never darken anyone again.  He reaches up and touches his forehead and smiles.  All that is left of Voldemort is Harry’s scar.

Posted by  Derek Rice, New Port Richey on 06/20  at  11:41 AM

Harry staired at what reamined of the Durslys and and started to sob. “Even though they were evil…” Harry thought"They didn’t deserve to die like this.” He looked at the place he so longed to get away from and started to cry. “Harry.” He turned around and saw Hermione and Ron stairing at him. This was to much, Harry feel to the ground and cried like he never had before. “Harry!” Ron and Hermione screamed and ran to his side. The world was never the same after that night. The wizards and muggles finaly got along and Harry Potter was never bother agian by his famous scar.

Harry smiled when he saw Ron and Hermione, but started to weep when he remembered Ginny, and how she was probably sharing a toilet with moaning Murtle. He smiled again though, at the fact that he would no longer be staying with the Dursleys, but with Rons family.Everything was where it was supposed to be. With Voldemort dead, he could finally appriciate his scar.

Drenched in sweat, Harry gasped for air and made his rise from the concrete of Privet Drive alone. As the images of what had ocurred pounded through his memory, he was pierced by the onlooking eyes of frightened neighbors. He scanned the remains of the wizarding battle only to see the lifeless bodies of his friends and his foes. His grip loosened on his once magical wand, and he knelt to the ground as the neighborhood slowly closed in on him. Powerless, vacant and alone, he cried into his wounded palms for the world that was now dead to him that had begun with the birth of a tiny scar.

At graduation Harry thought how he destroyed all but one Horcrux before meeting Voldemort that final time.  Voldemort revealed the N scar on Harry’s forehead were his initials LV marking his 6th Horcrux. Dumbledore once told Harry, “there are choices that are easy & choices that are right”. Harry chose to die making Voldemort mortal. Harry lay dead but Voldemort had a strange feeling.  Turning he saw Harry alive, scarless.  The fleeting look of triumphant on Dumbledore’s face years before, upon hearing Voldemort used Harry’s blood to return, was clear. Voldemort was Harry’s Horcrux. Harry then killed Voldemort. POTTER! From his daydream, Harry rose. As he accepted his diploma he touched his forehead where there had been a scar.

Harry smiled as he looked out the enchanted window at the Ministry of Magic. At last, Voldemort was gone and his life could return to normal. He had finally avenged his parents. He was sorry that Ginny had died, hs heart still ached for her. As greif threatened to overcome him, he looked to his right, and saw his friends, no, family that loved him. Everything was in its place, Ron and Hermione found eachother, and so had Lupin and Tonks. And now, since he had vanquished Voldemort, he finally knew the meaning of his scar.

Harry was nervous as he walked into the classroom.  “I can’t believe I’m back at Hogwarts,” he thought to himself.  “Maybe accepting the position as the Defense against the Dark Arts teacher wasn’t such a good idea after all.  They may be expecting more than I can give.”  As he looked over the class of first-year students, Harry felt the buterflies in his stomach start to slow down.  He thought back to all of the teachers he had in this very classroom and how sure and confident they all seemed to him.  He knew he must act in the same manner or these students would eat him alive.  Just as he was about to introduce himself to the class, one of the first-years raised her hand.  “Excuse me sir, but how did you get that scar?”

Hey, you said 200 words, but then only accepted 750 characters.  I had my story at 200 words exactly.  Rats.

This is a fun exercise!

“Harry Potter Sir, wake up!”
Harry opened his eyes to see two enormous eyes peering into his. Dobby the house elf was bent over him, so close their noses touched. “What…what happened?” Dobby said,“It was terrible, Harry Potter sir, terrible.” Beyond Dobby Ron and Hermione were stirring feebly, but Voldemort’s body was crumbling, bits blowing away in the cold wind.  Beside him Neville’s unseeing eyes stared at the darkness.
“The prophesy said the Chosen One could not live if Voldemort died. Neville was the Chosen One, not you. Master Sirius’ brother hid the Dark Lord’s horcruxes in his room. Dobby fixed everything.”
He pointed at Neville, who now bore the last horcrux, the scar.

The new class was arriving. Nervous twitters abounded from the youngsters who were gaping at all the color and complexity that is Hogwarts. As they gathered in the great hall for their introductions everyone was thrilled that they would finally get to meet in person the great Auror, defeater of the evil Lord Voldemort, and new headmaster of the school who was easily recognised by his blazing lightning shaped scar.

Harry’s heart beats faster as he realizes his mortal enemy is near.  Harry and Voldemort raised there wands invoking powerful death spells, leaving shattered bodies on the ground.
Both lay in front of Hermione and Ron who were stunned at what they had witnessed. They turned and looked back at Voldemort body all that was left was his cape.  A slight breeze caused the cape to rise, was Voldemort still alive?
Harry’s scar started to fade. It dawned on Hermione that Voldemort had killed 7 people, and with killing a part of his soul was hidden in 7 different places.  Six were destroyed.  Hermione realized that the evil had won.  Voldemort had destroyed his greatest foe the 7th and final soul was in Harry’s scar.

The first tendrils of sunlight began to creep above the horizon, dawning a new day void of the evil once known as Lord Voldemort. Harry smiles wearily at Ron, wiping the sweat from his smooth brow. Gone is the mark that defined him and set his destiny in motion. Gone is his innocence. Gone is the evil. Gone is the scar.

Ron held Ginny back, whispering in her ear, “It’s okay, don’t worry.” A lifeless Hermione lay to the side. Ginny was crying, and even he couldn’t hold back the tears. Harry stood in the middle of the field, illuminated by the flash of green that had come from the casting of the Avada Kedavra curse that had killed the Dark Lord. As the light faded, he walked over to where Ron and Ginny were. Ginny ran to him, and he held her close. Ron slowly walked over to Harry and clasped him on the shoulder. Then the three left the field, Ron carrying Hermione’s body, Harry holding Ginny, and Ginny tracing the spot where there had once been a lightning-shaped scar.
