David Hasselhoff, who recently resigned from “America’s Got Talent,” is getting his own reality show on A&E.

A&E ordered 10 half-hour episodes of an untitled David Hasselhoff real-life docu-series from FremantleMedia North America, it was announced today by Robert Sharenow, A&E’s senior vice president for nonfiction and alternative programming.

The series, slated for sometime this year, will take a behind-the-scenes look into the life of “The Hoff” focusing on his multiple entertainment and business endeavors, as well as his most important role as a single dad trying to help his teenage daughters break into the recording industry.

Listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as “The Most Watched TV Star in the World,” Hasselhoff has been on television for more than 30 years. Whether you know him from “Knight Rider,” “Baywatch” or “America’s Got Talent,” there is no disputing his iconic status. In between stints on TV, starring roles on Broadway, live performances and business ventures that have taken him worldwide, he is also raising two daughters, Taylor-Ann, 19, and Hayley, 17. Hayley, an aspiring actress, is the top model for the fashion line Torrid through her contract with Ford Models, and Taylor-Ann is a communications major at the University of Arizona. Being a singer has been a dream for both girls.

“It’s the dream of every parent to be able to help their children succeed,” Hasselhoff said. “I told the girls that I would help them open the door when they are ready, but they would have to walk through it on their own. This is their time, and I am excited to be a part of it by partnering with A&E and FremantleMedia on this new series.”

The series will follow Hasselhoff as he steps in and out of the limelight, assumes the role of ultimate stage dad for his daughters as he tries to utilize his connections in order to help them break into the recording industry, and we’ll find out ultimately who is running the show in the Hoff’s household.

“David Hasselhoff is an international icon known for his many roles and talents,” Sharenow said. “Now, for the first time, he’s allowing our cameras to see another side of him – as a single father raising two teenage girls – and the day-to-day drama that accompanies the rest of his larger-than-life life.”

a new show for the hoff? i don’t think millions of german viewers should skew the american numbers. he’s a joke to most of america. and for good reason. take tom jones, englebert humperdinck, mix in equal parts ego and delusion and you get…THE HOFF. i’m so tired of everyone needing to be a star…like the daughters. do they need to be singers? if i was a producer, i’d laugh at their dad helping them. how about being an artist…not just a singer? what happened to that? what happened to being an artist of any kind instead of a star? everyone wants to be a celebrity and it doesn’t matter how they achieve it. A & E. Arts and Entertainmnet. with the programming line up they’re moving toward, they may need to rename the network.
