Thursday night at 8 pm, the Skate Park of Tampa will be hosting “99 Bottles of Beer on the Wall”. The show consists of local and national artist from the skateboarding community producing art on beer bottles.  Profits from the show are going to the Skate Parks Boards for Bros foundation. I contacted Barak Wiser, the curator for the show to get a feel for how the show came about.

Tart: How did this show this show come about?

BW Chad Cardoza came up with the idea and pitched it to Ryan Clements and me.

Tart: Was the show thought of as a benefit for Boards for Bros from the start?

BW We wanted to sell the bottles for a good cause and B4B really needs the extra funds to complete more of the unfinished boards we give out every year.

Tart: Are there actually 99 bottles in the show?

BW We’ll know the total bottle count the day of the show due to bottles arriving late. It should be very close.

Tart: How did you come up with this group of artists, it has some heavy hitters from the “skate art” scene?

BW Chad and I put our head together and picked several local artists and several skateboarders, artists and photographers in the skateboard industry, made a list and I reached out to all of them through email and phone. It was a long process for me.

Tart: Who were you most psyched on getting to produce a bottle for the show?

BW For me, Chris Ryniak, Mike Aho, Jimbo Phillips, there’s too many to mention. Todd Bratrud is one of my favorites and his bottle will probably show up today or tomorrow?

Tart: Cost of some of the pieces?

BW Bottles will range from $20-$40. It’s going to be a steal for most pieces but everything must go. It’s all for a great cause and you don’t have to be rich to get a one of a kind piece of art from potentially one of your favorite skaters or artists. You just have to be the first one to lay the cash down.

The SPOT will also be giving out limited 99 bottle t-shirts that go with the sale of the top priced bottles to the first 40 or 50 people who buy one.
