So, as part of a thoroughgoing reallocation of resources, the sheriff’s executive assistant gets a whole bunch of new responsibilities and authority, and all anybody wants to talk about is how come she got a 15-percent pay hike and nobody else – at least nobody else who didn’t get a new title – got squat.
Demonstrating the confluence of great minds, it turns out that no less than Diane White, Bob White’s brainy wife, also urged (like a certain Tribune/tbo columnist – *blush*) the sheriff to lay a managerial title on the executive aide in question, the exquisitely capable Terry Phayre.
In fact, Mrs. White anticipated the blowback before it happened. But the sheriff argued that once he laid out the degree and details of Phayre’s enhanced duties, only inconsequential nitpickers would complain.
Right. You would think, having waged three successful campaigns for Pasco County sheriff, White would by now have learned the importance of appearances. But you would be wrong. Plainly, we’re going to have to keep coaching him up.
But, hey, that’s much of why we’re here, Mrs. White and the Jax Files.
