Operation Medicine Cabinet is an opportunity for you to get rid of expired and unwanted prescription drugs cluttering your bathroom cabinets.
Drop off your old or unused medications from 8 a.m to noon Saturday, Oct. 10, at Sweetbay Supermarket, 17605 Bruce B. Downs Blvd., east of the entrance to Highwoods Preserve Parkway.
The program collects expired or unwanted prescription and over-the-counter medications for proper disposal.
More than 3,000 pounds of medications have been collected in Hillsborough County since 2006, organizers said.
Advocates of the program emphasized that improper disposal such as flushing drugs down the toilet or drain leads to the contamination of
Florida’s aquatic environment.
Wastewater treatment systems are not designed to remove medications from our drinking water.
