TEMPLE TERRACE - National Night Out, the city’s premier annual neighborhood anti-crime program, will begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5, at the Family Recreation Complex on Whiteway Drive.
The program, in its 25th year nationwide, is designed to strengthen the police department’s relationship with residents in the effort to tackle neighborhood crime, a city of Temple Terrace release said. Temple Terrace’s National Night out program has been recognized as one of the best in the state.
The city’s award-winning program to be held this year at 6610 E. Whiteway Drive will feature games, a rock climbling wall, face-painting, free ice cream, a Laser Shot firearms-training simulator and visits from costumed, crime-fighting superheros. McGruff the Crime Dog and Tiny, a miniature talking police car, will make appearances. Police cars, firetrucks and an AeroMed helicopter will be on display. In addition, there will be giveaways, other exhibits, coloring books and snacks.
The Busch Gardens Sheiks and Temple Terrace Highlanders will provide music.
The event will conclude with a flashlight walk around the neighborhood at 8:30 p.m. as a demonstration of unity against crime.
More than 10,000 communities across the nation participated last year in National Night Out, according to the National Association of Town Watch.
