Temple Terrace Redevelopment Director Resigns

TEMPLE TERRACE - The city redevelopment director resigned today, leaving Temple Terrace officials with a decision on whether to hire a replacement.

Michael W. Marshall’s resignation took place immediately, a Temple Terrace news release said.

City Manager Kim Leinbach will assume the role of interim redevelopment director while he takes time to decide what should be the next step regarding the job.

In his Oct. 20 resignation letter, Marshall cited differences in personalities and business philosophies were factors in his decision to resign.

Marshall, 41, was hired in May 2008 to oversee the city’s multimillion dollar downtown redevelopment project. He was involved in negotiations and planning related to the project.

In September, the development partnership of Ram Development Co. and Pinnacle Realty Advisors terminated its deal with the City of Temple Terrace to purchase 20.36 acres from the city for $14.9 million.

The developer was expected to transform two blighted shopping centers southeast of Bullard Parkway and 56th Street into a town center consisting of retail, residential, office, restaurant and cultural elements.

The Temple Terrace City Council is in the midst of taking a look at its options regarding the project.

Men Slip On High Heels To Help Stomp Out Cancer

NORTH TAMPA - Male executives at University Community Hospital are willing to walk in high heels shoes to help prevent breast cancer.

They will join residents from across the Tampa Bay area at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, for “Heroes ‘N Heels,” an inaugural walk to help raise money for local uninsured women in need of mammogram screenings. The event will be on the UCH campus, 3000 Medical Center Drive.

The idea is to create awareness by encouraging men to walk in women’s shoes out of respect for people who are battling cancer. Participants are seeking pledges from the public. Every $100 pledge will allow an area woman to get a free mammogram screening.

UCH recently opened a new breast care center on site that will serve as a one-stop destination wellness center for women. Screenings will occur on-the-spot, without any wait time.

Thomason Hands Over More Records

CORY LAKE ISLES - Lawyers for developer Gene Thomason turned over 600 new pages of document this week to comply with a judge’s order.

It is the second batch of financial reports Cory Lake Isles homeowners have received from Thomason since mid-September, said Mark Basurto, the residents’ attorney.

Eight homeowners sued the property owners association to get a look at Thomason’s records regarding the operation and maintenance of the community.

Circuit Judge Martha Cook agreed Sept. 4 that the residents should have access to all official documents related to the operation and maintenance of the community that are in the possession of Cory Lakes Limited. She said the company had 20 days to hand over the records.

Thomason and his attorneys turned over 6,000 pages of documents a week after the Sept. 4 court hearing.

The developer submitted the additional documents Monday, Oct. 6,  as required, but his lawyers waited a day to release them.
Basurto said he was told Thomason’s lawyer was out of town Monday and wanted to review the documents before handing them over.

Basurto said he and his clients will go through the documents.

“I will be taking a look to see if they sent things we are looking for,” he said.
