El día de ayer mi compañera de trabajo, Katie Coronado y yo fuimos parte de Great American Teach In en el condado de Hillsborough. La escuela que fuimos es Wimauma Elementary School.

Cuando Katie Coronado, productora de WFLA, les explicó a los niños la necesidad de ser rápidos al traducir, muchos se sorprendieron de lo difícil que es nuestro trabajo.

Yo les expliqué que escribir y leer en dos idiomas es algo positivo en sus vidas. Y que incluso es mejor aprender un tercero.

Una anécdota bien bonita fue cuando la profesora de un grupo de tercer grado, nos dijo que uno de sus estudiantes hablaba tres idiomas: inglés, español y un dialecto azteca.

We had the opportunity to go to Wimauma Elementary School. Most of the students of the elementary were bilingual students.

It was fun to be able to teach them the richness of being bilingual. Katie and I were showing how we can use the internet to communicate around the world the things we do in Tampa.

The groups were from fifth grade to third graders. The activities we came up with was a little mark up of who we do the news in 30 seconds using a girl or a boy talking in English while the other translated in Spanish the same thing the other was saying.
