The Bucs defense has taken a lot of pride in recent years in their ability to contain Atlanta’s Michael Vick. They probably won’t be as boastful after Sunday’s effort, but the way the team managed to become a remarkable 7-3 probably says more about where the it’s going than where it’s been.
Tampa Bay, winning with offense? It sounds bizarre, but so does the notion of the Bucs driving the length of the field against Atlanta’s defense to win on the road.
But that’s what happened, the future of the Bucs on full display in the Georgia Dome. Chris Simms continues to improve and show confidence in crucial situations, and if Cadillac Williams is back to being Cadillac full-time, these two could grow old together.
Old, actually, is how the Bucs defense looked after the first quarter, trying to contain Vick and his largely anonymous receivers. Jon Gruden can’t be proud of the 304 passing yards his secondary surrendered, but you can’t blame him if thoughts of his young backfield (and being 7-3) keep him smirking.
But that smirk won’t be that of one who got away with something. Even if the Falcons’ desultory showing against Green Bay last week caught attention league-wide for its sloppiness, it’s doubtful anyone can say the Bucs didn’t deserve this victory.

The teams that have the ability to pull out close games are the playoff bound teams. The Bucs defense got too many injuries and people do not seem to realize that. We have beat close two good teams with winning records an that is what counts!

FINALLY, they show a BUCS game in Alabama… It took the annual trip to Atlanta to do it, but I thoroughly enjoyed this win from the comfort of my own home! Way to go Bucs! Another game where Vick was unable to beat us with his shifty moves! The D has looked very suspect the past few weeks, so here we are thanking the offense again! Welcome back Cadillac! Loved ya at Auburn, and nice to see you are doing it in the NFL now. Hindsight is always 20/20, but I sure wish we could have redo’s with the Jets and 49ers. But, I will take 7-3, no doubt! The next two games will say a BUNCH about where the Bucs are going this season. If the D can regroup, I think a nice long W-streak has begun here. GO BUCS!

Cook running loose while Simms throw an INT, lots of work to be done but we’ll take a road win anytime

Who would have thought this icon would best describe the Buc offense? Wow! Two awesome heart-stopping wins in a row. This team continues to improve, and it’s nice to see the offense bail out the defense on occasion. For some reason the D is anemic, maybe tired, but still manage to get the job done. If we can beat the Bears next week, and beat Carolina later, we could take this division. Two keys to success. Run Alstott and run Caddy. Cram it down their throats.
I wish the O-line would have protected Brad Johnson the way they have protected Simms the last two weeks. We miss you Brad! But we may be going to the big game again. Fingers crossed and GO BUCS!!!

Let ‘em say our defense is getting older by giving up 400+ yards. But, I don’t hear the critics saying anything about Rice’s forced fumble in the endzone with Booger recovering the ball for a TD!… nor the FF by Brooks within the final minutes of the game that helped set up Bryant’s winning FG!!
Remember, the stats will still look good, but a “W” is always the best stat.
Congratulations to ALL of the Bucs!
Keep playing like a team.

I’m really happy we won! I was amused by the fact that it seems as though Michael Vick is a lateral quarterback lead by a vertical coach and Chris Simms is a vertical quarterback, led by a lateral coach. Doesn’t it seems strange that Jon Gruden let Brad Johnson get away?

After what seemed like a 2 and a half hour dissertation by FOX announcers of how great Mike Vick was, “chopped liver Bucs” won again!!! GREAT!!!!!! Perhaps when Falcons get to Tampa we Buc fans can hear about the wonders of Vick again!!!!! Do you think his mediocre record will have improved enough to validate 10 minutes of the same claptrap?
