Ira Kaufman's First-Round Analysis |

The Bucs hadn’t selected a defensive player in the first round since Anthony McFarland in 1999. Adams has intriguing potential as an edge rusher. He boasts the speed and quickness Monte Kiffin craves up front. With Johnson and Thomas off the board, the Bucs decided to take the prospect who can make the most immediate impact on defense.

Adams is an ok pick. Would have liked to see the Bucs get either Safety LaRon Landry or MLB Patrick Willis. Those two seem to have more fire and leadership potential than Adams, but Adams fills a need and could be the best defender in the draft when all is said and done.

I know everyone wanted Johnson with this pick, but the Bucs could’nt afford to give up all those quality picks that Detroit wanted and besides with an aging Rice not to mention one year left on his contract and Spires past his prime this pick makes sense. In two years this kid will be one of the best in the game remember speed kills.
